Frequently Asked Questions

What is WiFi?

WiFi is a technology which makes it possible to send information over the air. You no longer need a cable to transmit data. Because of this, it’s possible to surf with your laptop on the Internet wherever you want.

Until recently, WiFi was mainly used as an addition to a cable or DSL connection. Now it is also possible to surf wirelessly using WiFi. For example at restaurants or airports, you can often use your laptop to surf the Internet. The downside is the limited range of these ‘hotspots’.

Thanks to a new technology Citymesh extends the range of WiFi from one spot to a whole city.

I don't have a wireless network adapter in my laptop, what can i do?

If you have a laptop or desktop without an integrated wireless network card, we recommend you use a Citymesh Wireless Bridge with cable. To obtain such a device, please refer to one of our premium partners

How can I improve my connection?

Tip 1: Pay attention to your location

The location where you are surfing indoors is an important factor for the strength of your signal. If you were to surf in the basement, or a room without any windows you will most likely not receive a strong signal. An optimal location is a place close to the window.

Tip 2: Connect you laptop to AC power.

If you are using a laptop to surf on Citymesh Internet, please note that a lot of models will turn down the power of the built in wireless antenna once the laptop is not plugged into an ac power source. This is done to improve battery life, but it can make it harder to get a good WiFi connection on your laptop. Also be aware that a lot of cheaper or older laptops will often have a substantially weaker built in antenna than their newer or more expensive counterparts.

Tip 3: Use a Citymesh wireless bridge

Depending on the location and the structure of the building you are in, it can be hard to get a reliable signal indoors. At this point you can use a Citymesh Wireless Bridge to improve your signal. You can obtain these devices at one of our premium partners.
